Chinese New Year at Li Li
Food plays a vital role at any new year celebration. For the Chinese, they believe each dish at the traditional new year’s feast symbolizes something important — something they want for themselves and their household.
Li Li, New World Manila Bay Hotel’s premier Cantonese restaurant, is the perfect venue for get-togethers with loved ones for the new year. With our seasoned chef from Hong Kong and his equally capable team, Li Li is home to authentic Cantonese cuisine just the way it’s made in China and how it’s meant to be experienced.
For this coming new year, our award-winning culinary team has prepared two special menus for January 27th and 28th in celebration of the new year — each menu features traditional Chinese dishes for the new year to invite protection, good luck, fortune and prosperity, unity, good health, and even fertility this Year of the Red Fire Rooster.
Prosperity Menu A features a beautifully Barbecued Suckling Pig; Japanese Conpoy Soup with Abalone, which symbolizes fertility (conpoy) and good fortune (abalone); Braised Dried Oysters for good fortune; Steamed Stuffed Eel with Fish Maw (great skin) and Shrimp Mousse with Crab Coral Sauce; and two kinds of dishes featuring the humble yet tasty glutinous rice — Fried Glutinous Rice, a savory treat served with air-dried meat; and Pan-fried Glutinous Rice Cake, which symbolizes the family staying together for a long time, much like the sticky consistency of glutinous rice.
Prosperity Menu A is PHP 2,388 (nett) per guest, for a minimum of two (2) guests. All Club Epicure members will enjoy a 20% discount on all F&B outlets even on Chinese Lunar New Year.
Prosperity Menu B offers a more elaborate and extravagant menu for those who are looking for the grandeur and flair of Cantonese cuisine on such a special occasion. The menu features a Roasted Crispy Suckling Pig served with jelly fish; Braised Bird’s Nest Soup and Japanese Conpoy for fertility; Wok-fried Prawns with dried fungus; the delectable and equally picturesque Charcoal-roasted Pipa-style Duck (a symbol of fertility) shaped like a traditional Chinese guitar; Steamed Stuffed Eel, and the two kinds of glutinous rice dishes as mentioned above.
Prosperity Menu A is PHP 3,288 (nett) per guest, for a minimum of two (2) guests. All Club Epicure members will enjoy a 20% discount on all F&B outlets even on Chinese Lunar New Year.
It is also customary to enjoy delicacies made from glutinous rice during the new year to encourage a higher position at work, a more prosperous life, or better income for businesses.
Aside from the Prosperity Set Menus, traditional Chinese new year dishes are also available a la carte, like the Steamed Garoupa with Yunnan Ham on Lotus Leaves and Superior Sauce. According to Chinese beliefs, the garoupa, or fish in general, symbolizes an increase in prosperity.
