Oh, Shoot! It’s All Cool: The Gen Z Art of Staying Chill Under Crunch Time

Picture this: you’re having a pretty chill day, minding your own business, when suddenly an unexpected curveball of disaster hits you in the face. Most likely, you’ll react two ways. Old- school logic says it’s probably time for a meltdown. If you’re Gen Z though, you’ll most likely drop a deadpan joke, send a chaotic meme about it in the group chat, and move on.

When it comes to their brand of humor, young adults often get flak for being flat, random, or detached. Place a Gen Z in a sticky situation and best believe there’s already a reaction meme sitting in their camera roll to react to it. A piece of news that might have caused meltdowns and widespread panic before might get a shrug and an “it is what it is” fly-by comment at best from this generation.

This makes a lot of sense for this age group that grew up in an era where online content has already been firmly rooted in our culture. In a world where you’re constantly bombarded by stories and information that shift in shape at the speed of light, we need to be just as fast and witty to keep up.

And so, far from being indifferent or detached, this collective approach is actually a low-key genius way of showing resilience. By not overly dwelling on the dramatics of things that are beyond control, crunch time and high pressure moments can be made more digestible. And if you squint really hard enough, you’ll see streaks of hopefulness in there, because how else can you spin something bad into a more positive one if you don’t make fun of it?

In high-pressure moments, staying level-headed is an elite skill. What else can you do if, say, you sent a project report to your boss and the whole department with the file name “Draft_Final_Final_Ayqnaplease.ppt”? No, you don’t pack up your belongings and change your name after. You say, “Oh shoot, it’s all cool,” and carry on.

The key to being this cool under crunch time pressure? Find a turning point that can make any stressful situation a little bit more manageable. This can be anything, from using humor to lighten the mood or, if you want something a little bit sweeter, indulging yourself in a sweet treat. Because let’s be real: nobody ever ate ice cream and thought, “Ah, this day is only getting worse” afterwards, right?

In times when you need a little kick, go for a Nestle Crunch Ice Cream. This long-time favorite is the perfect choice of snack to ease out of a stressful situation with its crunchy chocolate shell that is so satisfying to bite on and cold, refreshing flavors meant to tease and ease your taste buds.

This chocolate ice cream on a stick even has a new exciting flavor of Crunch Vanilla Caramel now which combines its signature vanilla flavored ice cream with salted caramel syrup coated in milk chocolate coating and crisped cereals. Of course, one can not go wrong with the OG Cookies & Cream and Chocolate flavors, too.

So the next time life throws you another “Oh Shoot!” moment, hit pause before you spiral. Take a breath, laugh it off, maybe find the perfect meme to reply with, then keep going. Or better yet, head to the nearest store and grab a Nestlé Crunch Ice Cream—available at Robinson’s, Mercury Drug, Alfamart, Shopwise, The Marketplace, WalterMart, and major supermarkets nationwide—and treat yourself to a stick or two.
