Megaworld Lifestyle Malls Marks Earth Hour 2026 with Nation’s Largest Switch-off Event

Earth Hour 2026 brought the community together in a collective effort to stand up for the planet and be a voice for change, transforming the Arcovia City open grounds into a venue for meaningful participation and shared responsibility.
In partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature – Philippines (WWF), Megaworld Lifestyle Malls hosted this year’s largest Earth Hour event in the country on March 28, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the “Switch-Off” campaign and drawing nearly two thousand attendees to join the global movement.

The symbolic gesture involves switching off non-essential lights for one hour to emphasize the need for urgent action against climate change, thereby raising awareness, fostering sustainable habits, and encouraging reduced energy consumption—especially relevant to current realities.
WWF National Ambassadors Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski, Robi Domingo, KC Concepcion, Karen Ibasco, and Xia Vigor, graced the event and delivered powerful calls to action in support of environmental responsibility.
As a Climate Change Solutions Steward and the inaugural female Earth hour ambassador of WWF-Philippines, Cojuangco shared a poignant observation from her years of involvement in the initiative saying, “Every year, we see different people, more people, and young!” She then emphasized the crucial role young people play in environmental advocacy.

Echoing Cojuango’s statement on youth leadership, the WWF-Philippines National Youth Council (NYC) took the stage to share ongoing efforts and encourage young attendees to get involved in any initiatives that support the environment.

NYC was also part of the event’s Youth Fair, which showcased opportunities for future sustainability initiatives. The fair featured participation from World Vision, Teach for the Philippines, and WWF’s Climate Change Awareness campaign for gamers.
Leading up to the switch-off, attendees experienced the power of music for the planet through performances by Lola Amour, Clara Benin, and The Ridleys—moments that transformed entertainment into a voice for climate action.

Earth Hour Across Megaworld Townships and Lifestyle Malls
Earth Hour was observed across 17 Megaworld townships and lifestyle malls nationwide, uniting communities and underscoring a commitment to sustainability and climate action.
Uptown Bonifacio’s Earth Hour initiative came alive with a projection mapping of a glowing Earth, transforming the space into a vivid tribute to the planet and a powerful call to protect it. Attendees also participated in an eco run, complemented by music, interactive eco fairs, and a terrarium workshop.

Eastwood City also hosted a Bike for Earth event to support greener lifestyles, bringing together residents to cycle, connect, and champion eco-friendly mobility.

At Lucky Chinatown, Earth Hour went beyond the venue with a Virtual Fun Run that empowered participants to run on their own time and space. Each stride became a symbol of commitment, showing that anyone can contribute to the cause, wherever they may be.

The Glow Art Wall at Festive Walk Iloilo invited attendees to write their pledges for the environment, turning personal commitments into a colorful, collective display of support for climate initiatives. As the lights switched off, the Pedal for the Planet activity began, highlighting Iloilo City’s reputation as the Biking Capital of the Philippines while inspiring people to take eco-friendly actions on two wheels.

Musicians at Twin Lakes Shopping Village showcased the art of sustainable music through creative Angklung instruments, showing how natural and renewable resources can be used to create meaningful experiences.

At Capital Town, a soulful cello performance opened the evening on a reflective note, leading into a captivating drone light show that illuminated the night sky.

Each of the 17 malls created immersive experiences tailored to its community, demonstrating localized initiatives that contribute to the larger goal of climate stewardship.
Beyond the Hour
Megaworld Lifestyle Malls remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing sustainable practices by creating spaces that foster not only retail and lifestyle experiences, but also education, community engagement, and environmental advocacy. This is evident in initiatives such as the adjustment of mall operating hours effective March 30, undertaken to drive energy efficiency and align day-to-day operations with more responsible energy use.
Beyond operational measures, initiatives like Earth Hour reinforce the role of these spaces as avenues for public participation—encouraging communities to embrace environmentally conscious habits and contribute to the shared responsibility of protecting the planet for future generations.
